Clockwise or anti-clockwise?

Found from this blog.

Do you see the above woman moving in clockwise or anti-clockwise direction? Supposedly if you can see both directions, you’re a genius.

The truth is… Keep watching. (I spent ten blardie minutes watching this picture.) At first, I saw it as clockwise, then anti-clockwise, then clockwise again. I BET YOU DO TOO! Wanna know what’s going on? Keep watching.

Under the Sea (Spanish)

A while ago, I posted the video for The Little Mermaid’s Under the Sea in English. Since I’m taking Spanish now, I thought I’d post the Spanish version up too!!

Only managed to catch a few words with the help of the lyrics provided in the video.

Sueña : dream
Escucha : listen
Son : are
Siempre : always
Ellos : them
Puede : can

Quite pathetic. But I’ve only attended 6 lessons so not that bad. Hopefully I’ll be able to understand the song by the end of the term. :|

Or maybe I can proudly say this:

The Big Thaw

Borrowed some Nat Geo mags from the library last week and was reading the June 2007 issue today. The issue featured two articles on global warming.

Online versions of the two articles:
Life At the Edge
The Big Thaw

“Life At the Edge” is especially heartwrenching, as it shows the direct impact that global warming is causing to the helpless life in the Arctic. According to the mag, “The Poles are melting at an alarming rate; as global warming grinds on, the possibility of an ice-free Arctic, at least during the summer, creeps closer each day… Some scientists even believe the Arctic will be void of summer ice, dooming species such as polar bears to extinction in less than a century.”

I cannot imagine a world without polar bears.

I’m not sure how much of the info on gobal warming on the net is true, and how much is blown up. But, I think that subconsciously, every human being knows that he/she has to do much more to help the earth.

I’ll start by never taking the taxi (unless I’m having a crazy tummy ache and there isn’t a toilet within a 2km radius!), never taking excessive plastic bags, never turning on the aircon unless it’s 32 degrees outside, and turning off the lights when not in use.

Do your part. :)

Shy hamster

I have a very shy hamster. I’m not sure if this is common, tho I think it is.

My hamster is so shy that when she hears my voice, she will either run on the threadmill like she’s running away, or run into her house and hide in there, occasionally poking her head out. :|

On the rare occasion that I have her in my hands, she’ll squirm and try to run up my arm with the intention of escaping.

Also, whenever I put my hand into the cage for her to smell me (not even grabbing her), she would run on the wheel or go into hiding.

Cleaning time is especially hard as it takes a lot of patience and skill to get her out of her jungle home – so many nooks and corners that she can escape from our reach. Worse still, she’s so acrobatic that she even does the “monkey bar” on the cage’s ceiling grills. Amazing to watch but tedious to handle!

So. Any one knows how I can calm her down and let her trust me more?

Sushi my hamster!!

Took some more pictures of Sushi and Sushi’s home. Also took a video, which I’m currently uploading is at this link on FB or view the LQ version at the bottom of the post. :P

“LEEN SEI LEI AH!!” (Translation from Canto to English: Squeeze/pinch you to death!)

What a mess she made! Actually I found that she had laid her steps on the 2nd floor nicely with bedding* from the 1st floor which looked like snow had fallen on her home. But she later pushed the fluff down back to the 1st floor and created a huge pile of fluff below the stairs! She’s damn active and creative lah!! The steps also filled with bath sand which she kicked from the hut. She’s a terribly messy hamster. XD

Feeding bowl (heart-shaped!!!) at the bottom of the pic.

Sushi running on threadmill. Hamsters need to run about 8 miles a day! Especially at night! Thankfully the wheel doesn’t make any sound or else I’ll not be able to sleep at night.

LQ video:

*Bedding is made of fluff material, recommended by PetLovers.

Sushi!

I went to Vivo today. And decided to get myself a hammie! Actually I’ve been contemplating the adoption for awhile now, and a trip to the Vivo toilet this afternoon cemented my decision. *You make great things while you’re in the loo, you know?*

Went into PetLoversCentre and picked out a (pink!) cage that comes with running wheel, slide, food bowl, water dispenser and house, bedding, food of dried nuts and such, vitamins and bath powder. Oh, and not forgetting THE HAMSTER!!! It’s a white-faced Roborovski (a kind of dwarf breed) that is uber active and loves to run and responds to your clapping!

We named her Sushi cos she looks like a rice ball. :D :D :D

An internet picture:

Went home and set up the cage that took a damn long time, aching fingers and thrashing headache to finish. The China-brand cage is not easy to fit at all and only have chinese instructions :| Thankfully I had Zw with me who, unlike me, can actually read Chinese words! :)

Chip was overly friendly to Sushi and perhaps thought that Sushi was real sushi and started licking her! The poor girl got so distraught and wet! It crouched into itself and was really quite shakey. Chip didn’t leave her alone in the cage, and because I left the cage on the floor, Chip kept visiting the cage and kept prodding it, sniffing it, and occassionally barked when she couldn’t find Sushi. Damn adorable, but I know it’s real bad for the hamster especially cos its a new environment for her. Poor lil thing, just two months old.

Belle was, as usual, very dao. Only sniffed it at its cage once.

Now for some LQ pics that I took from my phone. Maybe I’ll take more “professional” pics of Sushi next time…

Blurry pic of Sushi in the foreground, and the slide/ladder in the background.

The two-storey cage! I place it on my bookshelf to avoid direct sunlight and direct attention from Chip.

Sushi in the centre of the pic, next to her threadmill.

More info on the Roborovski. Russian name is so sexy!

How to care for your hammie.

P.S. Anybody who wants to get a pet should consider the life-long implications (the pet’s, that is). One must always be a responsible pet owner. Never forget that adopting a pet is a daily responsibility that will last until the pet dies. You should never buy a pet just because you think that it is cute. Novelties wear off.

Interesting week

Wednesday: End of the first week, for me. (Don’t be jealous :P )

Some interesting anecdotes (?) to share with my loyal readers. Haha. (You can tell I’m in a good mood cos it’s the end of my work week.)

  • On the first class of my first day, I noticed that Zhengwen’s friend (whom I’ve only seen once in my adulthood a couple of weeks back – cos she somehow recognised me as being from the same primary school as her then) was in the same class as me! Originally, I was confused about whether I recognised the correct person, as Zw darling thought she’s from NTU. I’ve yet to speak to her cos I always have to rush off after Spanish for other classes. Hmm. Hope she doesn’t think I’m daoing her. She looked at me a few times in class where I smiled at her but she didn’t respond. Or worse, she might not recognise me as Zw’s gf. Haa..
  • In my Corporate Reporting class (yes, I’m taking a Year 2 module), there is a Dawn Yang and a Xiaxue. :) Well, “Xiaxue” was what the prof pronounced when he was marking attendance, but actually her name is Xiayue. Hahaha… And they were both sitting together. Laugh leh? I thought it was amusing. :|
  • Today at MPW (another Year 2 mod), this guy happened to sit beside me. His face, I didn’t register at first. Only realised who he was when I glanced at his name card. A few years ago, my friend hysterically told me that this guy had tried to eat her tofu. (Sounds wrong?) Will spare you the details. He’s quite a high profile guy in NJ, I believe. So every time I saw him at SMU, I would get the shivers. And to think this clean-cut looking and smart scholar of a pervert was sitting next to me in class!!! The whole time, I kept pulling the hem of my skirt down, trying to cover my thighs in case he did something crazy! [Lesson to take away is that no matter how you think the shit you've done in the past will stay in your past, the truth will always come back to haunt you. Even if it's not haunting you in your dreams, you can be sure that somebody in your future will know the things you've done. You can only count yourself lucky if he/she does not expose you. But the truth will always be the truth.]

Whistle~

There goes my summer. Tomorrow is the start of yet another school term and also the start of year 4. I am not very excited about it. 4.5 mods in a 3-day week, with my Mondays packed back-to-back till 7pm is not fun.

Looking back at my summer, I realised that I did not complete (or even start) tasks that I set out to do. For lack of interest or maybe I just got carried away doing other stuff, like sleeping ten hours a day. Well, at least I got my eyebags cleared for now.

I didn’t even manage to learn the lyrics to Rent by heart, even tho I promised myself that I would, last week. This kind of attitude… I predict will ruin me this term. Again. Yea…

Time to perk myself up now:
Looking forward to Spanish class first thing tomorrow! HOLA to my new term! ADIOS to my summer hols!

Beijing’s Opening Ceremony was a fake!

Fake fireworks.
No wonder I thought that the sky was too perfect for a smog-filled city.

Fake singing.

Got the mic some more! All out to SCAM!!!

And to think I gave so much praise to BJ (which I would otherwise have reserved) cos I sincerely thought that the opening ceremony was so well done. :(

I still have to say… the performers’ timeliness in the opening act (the golden drums) and the taichi item is applaudable. As a dancer (tho not a darn good one), timeliness is something that takes many many months/years to perfect! It’s not easy for thousands of people to do the same act at the same time, same speed, same angle, same force!! Super 齐! …But who knows, maybe they pre-recorded those too. :|

Anyhow, I’m still very disappointed…
