Departure
Just when we kissed Rusty and Reno (probably given other names now) goodbye… Smoothie’s gone too.
He jumped off the balcony.
Haha no, he died of malnutrition. Somehow he just got weaker and thinner until he stopped living. Despite having a less crowded cage and hence less competition for food, this tiny little being, half the size of his siblings, lost his will to survive.
After all the days of nursing we provided. After all the effort of feeding it milk/evaporated milk/water by hand when his mother abandoned it. After we thought that everything would be fine since he started getting bigger. We thought Smoothie would be a survivor since he was always first on the food dish when food arrived, blocking the other pigs from food.
But after growing for awhile, he stopped growing. And then he started shrinking. And then he just lost all his strength. Couldn’t even pick itself up after it had fallen.
I was so attached to Smoothie. He was rather comfortable with human touch. He was the only baby I wanted to keep. It was the first time I ever nursed anything to health. I felt like a mommy. But it wasn’t meant to be…
I took some pics of them that was sent to potential guinea pig buyers.
THE COW (the only one left)

RUSTY

RENO

SMOOTHIE

I’m gonna miss his soft fluffy fur, so different from his siblings. He was the most endearing.
